Mining Nutrition Survey Data
نویسندگان
چکیده
In developing countries, many national development plans have included nutrition considerations for decades. This has led to a major thrust from the governments to promote nutrition education activities. Many public nutrition research institutes have stepped up their efforts to educate the public by conducting workshops which includes various techniques like giving lectures, providing questionnaires, etc., to train the participants in the most basic and important concepts of nutrition and dietetics. In this paper we focus on an application of mining questionnaires of such kind to determine the current knowledge of child participants and how this knowledge improves after the training session. This has been used to detect what kind of participant in the training session perform well/poorly and to determine if training has been successful and what improvements can be made in future training sessions. متن کاملDependency Mining on the 2005-06 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Data
The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) provides data and statistical information in an effort to improve public health. Data mining approaches provide practical methodologies to exploit meaningful information from raw data. Therefore, data mining tools may be used to derive implicit and useful hidden information from health data. In this paper, we carry out two experiments using decis...
متن کاملOptimizing data collection for public health decisions: a data mining approach
BACKGROUND Collecting data can be cumbersome and expensive. Lack of relevant, accurate and timely data for research to inform policy may negatively impact public health. The aim of this study was to test if the careful removal of items from two community nutrition surveys guided by a data mining technique called feature selection, can (a) identify a reduced dataset, while (b) not damaging the s...
متن کاملIdentifying small groups of foods that can predict achievement of key dietary recommendations: data mining of the UK National Diet and Nutrition Survey, 2008–12
OBJECTIVE Many dietary assessment methods attempt to estimate total food and nutrient intake. If the intention is simply to determine whether participants achieve dietary recommendations, this leads to much redundant data. We used data mining techniques to explore the number of foods that intake information was required on to accurately predict achievement, or not, of key dietary recommendation...

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the benefit of using common data mining techniques on survey data where statistical analysis is routinely applied. The statistical survey is commonly used to collect quantitative information about an item in a population. Statistical analysis is usually carried out on survey data to test hypothesis. We report in this paper an application of data minin...
